The Design

At this stage we are yet to have any consultations with M-Studio who help you select your colours and carpet/tiles etc. I, sorry I mean 'we', have a pretty good idea of what we want already so I thought I'd share our ideas and also provide a list of the upgrades we included.

Design

Greys, blacks and whites. Want to keep the colour palette fairly neutral so you can introduce other colours easily but stir away from the typical neutral set of creams and browns - soo 2008.

Sort of going for a NewYork Studio/Apartment/Warehousey look with replica furniture designs and raw finishes. We really wanted to have concrete polished floors to help achieve this look but unfortunately this wasn't an option.

Gong for really white walls with maybe a single black feature wall and black glass splash-back in the kitchen. White, Black or Grey granite and 2 Pac cabinetry etc.

Use of dark timbers for door frames and folding doors leading to the alfresco areas. Dark timber flooring and white grey tiling in bathrooms etc.

To give you an idea to where we are heading with this, here are some pics from displays and on the net that we found:

Materials/Furniture

We wont to use replica and old/new looking furniture. Nothing to out there but simple and clean.

The Plan

Initially we had a few problems with the design of our house and Dom and I toyed up between a single and 2 storey design.

The single option allowed us to spend more on upgrades etc; which I will post on later. We really were toying up between more room with less upgrades and less room with more upgrades.

The problem was that our block has a 3 metre easement out back (you can't build on this) and a 2 metre set-back on the side facing the road. This meant most of the single designs we liked were either too wide or too long for the block.

Metricon were pretty good and allowed us to choose a floor plan that met most our needs and then change rooms around to get it almost perfect. Most of this was at no extra charge which was good.

Originally the floor plan we went for (The Mitchell) had a Rumpus Room out the back which we have converted into the Outdoor/Alfresco room - a must we reckon :)

We also decided to covert 1 of the 4 bedrooms at the front of the house into another living/sitting room - just in case I don't feel like watching another bloody wildlife/animal show (Dom is obsessed!)

Anyway, here is is:

The House

Also decided on the house today - it may seem like we secured the block and decided on the house all on the same day; but that's not the case unfortunately.

This decision was made after 4 months, 13 different quotes and 4 house plan options.

Really amazed how calm and happy our sales consultant at Metricon remained over the last few months with the amount of changes and amendments we made.

In the end we went with the Mitchell 22 with Metricon (Facade pictured above) - it's an open plan design with a huge outdoor alfresco tacked on at the back. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 separate living areas.

It's really quite a decent sized house for 2 people with heaps of room out the back for our 3 dogs!

Metricon plan to start building in about 10 weeks.

I'll post an image of the plan tomorrow - still making a few tweaks :)

The Block!

We finally decided on a block today and signed the contract. Settlement is scheduled for early March.

Lot 413 Lockheed Parade in Kingsford Point Cook. Drove around the new estate today and parked on our driveway to take a closer look and take a couple pics...

Not really much to see at the moment but we were able to walk around and check out the views and sight the fence boundary.

The block is a corner block 403m2 with all our living facing North. Part of the Kingsford Estate at Point Cook - link to our block release plans Lot 413 Lockheed Parade - Kingsford
